  YOUR COMMENTS AND RESPONSES

This expression has probably seemed  overused, but your site is like a breath of fresh air.

Reading about the ignorance of people, and their insistence of the carrying out of a procedure that is
cruel, barbaric and unethical, I was beginning to think that there is simply no hope in ending such a
practice in the USA. Everyone whom I speak to gives me the same parroted answers over and over; "It's
neater/cleaner/etc... it has medical benefits... I wouldn't sleep with someone who wasn't... doctors
recommend it..." It feels kind of helpless to know this is going on and not be able to do anything about
it.

This is why I was relieved to find this site; if  anyone might have a voice that could be listened to it
is of doctors. Masses tend to listen to someone in the medical field, rather than someone on the streets
about a procedure that has been pathologized, and this could be a good, or a bad thing. Bad, because there
are still ignorant pro-circ' doctors out there condoning it, but good because there are also doctors
out there who want the truth to be known. I sincerely hope more and more doctors stand up against
circumcision and speak out. I think this would help in a big way in ending circumcision in America.

I personally have been spared of the knife, but alas, I am sad to hear that part of my family is lost in
ignorance and would do this to hurt their children... the church they attend is highly pro-Semite (nothing
wrong with that) but in consequence, also pro-circumcision. Actually, a cousin of mine just had
a baby, and she was talking to me about how she would have had her sons (this is her second) circumcised had it not been for my cousin in law. She said that her firstborn was already "suffering" from not being
circumcised. When I asked her why, she told me the doctor told her that "his foreskin was stuck to his
glans," and furthermore that "he had way too much foreskin..." She had an appointment already set up for
him. "So sad, he doesn't even know" she said. He is only 5... I took it upon myself to write her a note
advising against it... that there are doctors who give any and every reason to circumcise. I also told her it
would be sad to circumcise her son without him knowing... I don't know what she did. I left it
entirely up to her, but even though it wasn't happening directly to me, I had nightmares about my
poor cousin being circumcised without his consent... poor little guy... It's why I think more and more
doctors should join this. They should make it aware in the medical profession of what an unnecessary, not to
mention, unethical practice, circumcision is. If magazines and medical journals will not publish
anti-circumcision articles, then Doctors Against Circumcision should publish their own. Bang the pot
and make it known...

It was asked to address this in your website, but I personally feel that the circumcision of non
consenting infants has no place in a so called civilized and democratic society. It is not a
democracy where a person can't decide for himself what happens with his own body.

What do I believe should happen to doctors who violate the medical code of ethics and perform surgery for
which there is no medical necessity?

I think this depends. There are doctors out there who perform the operation because parents request it, and
perhaps these doctors should be taken to court and be sued for unethical practice. But then, there are
doctors who not only perform this atrocity, they recommend it and push it on parents outright, using
all the false claims listed above. When I asked my parents about why they didn't circumcise me, they told
me they didn't want to cause me any pain, but that the doctor was pushing for it, and they had to refuse
a couple of times. I think these doctors should be prosecuted to the full extent of the law.

I hope one day these so-called doctors and physicians should be taken to court one day, and are exposed for
the gold digging perverts they are. American males should be let known how they have been robbed, and all
their wrath and anger should be poured on such doctors that perpetuated the mutilation of their genitals.
Circumcision deprives men of something they can never get back...

Thank you for such an informing site. I pray more doctors open their eyes and stand up for males in
America.

I am sorry for writing again, but I was just reading some more articles and experiences from other men and
parents who almost had circumcision pushed on them by doctors, needless to say it made me even more outraged at such doctors. I was reading about the incidents where children are lied to by their parents, where
doctors almost forced circumcision on an unconsenting  couple's baby, and men that have been circumcised with tonsillectomies, and I was shaking with anger. I mean, never mind how horrible and barbaric the actual
circumcision is, how rude and disrespectful of such doctors! How dare they pawn off circumcision on people
like that!

If I didn't say this in my previous letter about what should happen to such doctors, I say take them down!
Aside from being taken to court and be exposed to America for the monsters they are, they should have
their precious title of "Dr." taken away. Men who perform, condone, and push for such an atrocity don't
deserve to have the title of "Dr." A real Dr. is supposed to help, not hinder people... And what's
worse! Accrue profit at babies' and men's expense! Furthermore, a Dr. shouldn't take advantage of his
high position to pass off misinformation and deceive people like that. No thanks to such doctors,
American's are being mislead to surrender their children to unnecessary mutilation. Meaning the best
for their kids, parents make their boys undergo the worst... Such "doctors" should be kicked out of the
medical industry and never be allowed near patients again.

In the mean time, more and more should be done to inform Americans (and other parents to be) about the
truth. More publications should be made. The curriculum in schools and institutions of higher
education should be revised, as other medical students could also be misinformed. I have read in other
articles, that often the only penis a medical student studies is the circumcised penis. The only thing they
show about the foreskin is how to cut it off. I took a on this site, the required text is one such that
"discusses the pros and cons" of circumcision. It leaves the student hanging and ambiguous about the
while thing. This injustice to children and men cannot go on any longer; parents should open their eyes and
realize what is happening to their sons.

On a side note, I saw the picture in your site about the Moslem boy who was about to get circumcised... I
didn't know whether to start to cry myself or yell in anger... "Medical" circumcision is one thing, but
religious circumcision is something else, and is an entirely different battle. It is my hope that once
circumcision is rendered non-functional and shunned in the medical field, people doing it for religious or
traditional purposes will follow. (I think it terrible children have to have religion pushed on them like
that...) Unfortunately, even when something has been disproven ethically and scientifically, it doesn't
always translate to religious beliefs; ignorant people will continue a practice even long after it has been
rendered obsolete. And what a horrendous practice to keep doing, even in the name of faith... I pray for
the emancipation of all my male brothers... Someday...

Editor's Note: Thanks for your excellent letters to this new web site. You may write as often as you wish.  It is hoped that your letter will be the beginning of responses by hundreds and thousands of concerned individuals (including students)  who will speak out against this dehumanizing and barbaric practice.

During the past decade we have received hundreds of letters and phone calls. To those who care - this is your site - to educate the masses.  When we all speak out in protest - perhaps our voices will be heard. Silence is the greatest friend of circumcision.

one significant error

one has two meanings in the above statement.  as you read this you
will no doubt note that i am biased toward the idea that what will
follow is, in fact, the one significant flaw in our thinking.

on the other hand, and in everything i will try to explain, in the
following, please understand that i am trying to be as polite as i
can.  it may be one of many significant errors, but i am convinced
that this one, particularly, has not yet been properly considered.

cogito ergo sum, right?

i think, therefore i am.

what do you think about infant male circumcision?

all i want us to do, as people everywhere, is to make that detail
part of our opinions, be part of our discussions about everything
else we talk about, everywhere.

i want us all to do that because i want peace - because i believe
that peace will only be possible after every body every where has
finally learned to actually recognise every other body in all the
myriad other whereas and wherefores that comprise our search for a
lasting peace on earth.

there really is enough room for us all, but only barely - right?

we know that much now, do we not?  we can all recognise that life
as we know it, on this planet, is now in an incredibly precarious
balance, and it could all blow sky high at any moment, right?

please tell me this is so?  if not - was captain nemo hero enough
that there really is somebody out there in a submarine, who would
be prepared to help me get to whatever is left?  i do not want to
be on the surface, when it happens.  maybe somewhere out in space
would be safer, i am not sure.

anyway..

peace.

our religious books are about peace, i think many would agree, as
long as everybody, everywhere, were able to respect all religions
everywhere.  this might be good plan for peace, perhaps, provided
everyone is given the freedom to choose.

our sciences, all of them, are about peace, ultimately.  even the
ones which study war and weapons are about peace, by force, as it
might be necessary.  i do not approve much, of the latter, but so
be it.

our philosophies are about peace, are they not?  if nothing else,
we seek to understand ourselves, and achieve an inner peace, such
that the need to understand is satisfied, be that restful or not,
as the case might be.

why is it then that none of these studies appear to have realised
that there are actually three human sexes?

you take a male infant, usually less than a handful of days aware
of the world at large, sometimes a few more, and then you cut, or
tear, his entire foreskin away, before he could even be aware, or
know, that he had such an organ.  it is an organ, you do realise,
and not just a bit of skin, yes?

concentrated in a little band at the tip of his foreskin are many
nerve endings, of a type only found elsewhere in his anus, in the
soles of his feet, the palms of his hands, in his lips and at
the tips of his fingers.  these are his most sensitive parts, is that
not so?

in no other part of his body are these nerves found in as great a
concentration than in his foreskin, and these, in turn, form only one
part of a far more complex whole.

what remains after circumcision will function, it is true, but it has
been stripped of virtually all the bits that made it an organ
of sense, as opposed to function.

there are three human sexes, are there not?

one of these is man made.

there is a significant error in our thinking.

our religious books, at least two specific branches of these, of
the christians and the jews, speak to this difference.  they are
seldom read in that light, at least where peace is concerned, or
perhaps more accurately, read most often when it is necessary to
make justification, for or against, the creation of another kind
of man.  what happened next is not often read in any direct, nor
even indirect, sense of cause and effect.

some of our sciences do include this factor, and branches of our
health arts also, but only in very specialised areas.  these put
out evidence for and against various mental and physical healths
and things do change, but not much.  the actual results are most
often discarded, and the new theories are generally based on new
hopes, without reference to the effects of the previous theory.

philosophy is not my strong suit.  gnostically speaking, this is
my gospel, as i write, but generally the philosophers themselves
do not discuss the subject much.  we may only presume, by proxy,
what perspective any particular philospher may have had, to find
by inference only, any kind of philosophy of circumcision.  what
we think, philosophically, is apparent only in comparison.

and we males, everywhere, worldwide, have a custom of hiding our
one most distinct difference from each other.  in some religions
i assume one could perhaps presume, but speaking generally, most
of us are unable to tell one from another.

some of us know who the enemy or the heathen or the pagan or the
whatever-he-might-be-who-hates-us-as-much-as-we-hate-him, is, or
at least, more peacefully, simply assume that he is not like us.

most of the rest of us have not a clue which of us is which, but
we go on misunderstanding each other, as politely as we might be
able, or perhaps we know, as some fathers and sons may know, but
we consider it rather impolite to discuss such things in public.

there are two kinds of men on this planet.  we actually are very
different species, almost from birth.  we can usually tell women
apart from men, and they can tell us apart, one from another, if
they know us well enough, but few people, even so, pay very
much attention to this one distinct (and usually hidden) difference.

this is a mistake, i believe, and an error (perhaps deliberately
made, sometimes) in our studies of what humanity actually is and
what that difference really means.

my research, over the past five years, has led me to believe, in
light of my ability to identify patterns, that there is one very
significant discontinuity (or omission) in all our ideas of what
it is to be human.

there are three human sexes, and one of these is man made.

this is important, we must learn to understand it.

that is all i wanted to say.

toward peace,

james knight

Oh wow! Alright! Your work is being used! But you know what I like about
your site? It's that it clearly points to what our fight against
circumcision all boils down to, despite all the smokescreens and fallacies
thrown into the air by pro-circumcisionists to confuse people. You make it
clear that despite all the arguments made on behalf of "medical benefits,"
"hygiene," "an age old practice," and "parental choice," circumcision is
WRONG. Never mind that the procedure isn't, nor has it ever been, medically
based; needlessly cutting off healthy parts off of a baby boy is mutilation,
and exploiting a baby's defenselessness to perform such a practice on his
genitals to fulfill someone else's agenda is, by definition, sexual child
abuse. You demolish all arguments made in favor of circumcision, and when
the dust clears, the fact remains; neonatal circumcision is unethical, and
try as you may, nothing can rationalize it. Here doth neonatal circumcision
stand, stripped of all its disguises, and the reader can either take it or
leave it. - California

As I write this letter, I sit here on the verge of tears.  There is nothing I can do to repair the physical damage and very little to repair the emotional damage that was done to me 50 years ago.  Except do what ever I can to end this horrible barbaric assault on helpless baby boys.

Put my name down on the petition to outlaw circumcision:

I’ve had serious reservations about Infant Genital Mutilation, (IGM), (I personally will never use that Biblical term again.), hovering at the edges of my consciousness for years now.  Then today, I came across your site and a couple others and had an authentic emotional epiphany.  And an ethical, moral, and visionary epiphany as well.  Thanks to you, (and some others), I was fully radicalized in the space of about an hour.  From now on I will not rest until IGM achieves the same legal, moral, and attitudinal opprobrium as other forms of child abuse.  When people look at IGM as being even more depraved than the sexual molestation of minors then my work will be done.

Do you know if anyone in the United States has ever tried to file a class-action lawsuit against the American Medical Association?  I'm certainly feeling like that might be a viable next step for the US .  I don't know if a similar legal mechanism exists in Canada , but here it is one of the most powerful tools for social change.  Nothing gets someone's attention like your hand digging around in their pocketbook!   - R M Lee  -  California

Editor's reply:  Right on!  It is the medical organizations who are obligated to protect patients in Canada and the USA. In Canada the responsibility lies mainly with the Colleges of Physicians and Surgeons. So far - they have protected  the sexual predators who mutilate  males  in Canada. If  the AMA and similar medical organizations refuse to ensure that medical doctors practice within the law and  in accordance with ethical medical principles, then they should also pay.  This is a great idea.  A class action by male victims of circumcision is long overdue.  This would soon put the breaks on the sexual predators.

Many thanks for a very clear and positive site.  I have clarified some
of my own thinking as a result of reading it.
